Oh My Gosh...Let us tell you ALL about how amazing Farm Fresh Food REALLY is!!
We can honestly say without any hesitation, that our homegrown, pasture raised meat is far better than the stuff you get at the store. There's just something to be said about knowing where your food comes from. At CROE Haven farms we take great care in raising our stock, so that we can give you the best premium quality meat. Our livestock enjoy their days grazing, rooting or browsing on acres of lush vegetation (we are definitely not in short of clover!) And in the evenings we serve them up some of our homegrown and harvested delish non gmo corn.
In the spring we grow our garden, stocked with veggie goodness. This serves our animals in the summer months as they enjoy the scraps, nothing is wasted on the farm! Alfalfa and Orchard Grass are other critter favs that we keep available in the barn. Both are excellent sources of added protein.
The benefits to raising our own animals, is knowing exactly what we are eating because we know exactly what they're eating.
We started CROE Haven Farms in 2016, with the dream of eating cleaner, healthier foods, and becoming a more self-sustaining farm. In addition to raising the livestock for food, we have two young boys who are active in our local 4H club and so this coming year will be our first time showing goats! BEEF
We raise Dexter cattle, which are a breed of cattle originating in Ireland. The smallest of the European cattle breeds, they are about half the size of a traditional Hereford and about one third the size of a Friesian milking cow
Dexters are classified as a small, friendly, dual-purpose breed; used for milk and beef. However they are often listed as a triple-purpose breed, since they are also used as oxen.
Beef animals in the US are expected to mature in 18–24 months and result in small cuts of high quality lean meat, graded US Choice, with little waste. The expectable average dress out is 50 to 70 percent. The beef produced by Dexters is well marbled and tends to be darker.
PORK
GOAT
The Boer goat is a breed of goat that was developed in South Africa in the early 1900s for meat production.
They were selected for meat rather than milk production; due to selective breeding and improvement, the Boer goat has a fast growth rate and excellent carcass qualities, making it one of the most popular breeds of meat goat in the world.
They are noted for being docile, fast-growing, and having high fertility rates. Does are reported to have superior mothering skills as compared to other breeds.
CROE Haven Farms uses either Berkshire, Hampshire or a cross between the two.
Berkshire pork, prized for juiciness, flavour, and tenderness, is pink-hued and heavily marbled. Its high fat content makes it suitable for long cooking and high-temperature cooking
Hampshire hogs are noted for being well-muscled and rapid growers, and for exhibiting good carcass quality when used as meat animals.
